Petaluma Recycling Center
The Petaluma Recycling Center opened its doors in 1974 at the corner of Thompson Lane and Bodega Avenue west of Petaluma. It was one of the first opportunities for persons with developmental challenges to earn a paycheck. What began as a Friday job eventually turned into a six day a week program. The recycling center moved to its current location at 315 Second Street in Petaluma in 1979. It continues to be an important employer of persons with developmental challenges and is the primary recycling facility in a growing city of 60,000. The recycling center accepts over 20 different kinds of recyclables and employs 13 persons a day.
